Sport Islington Award.

Olympic Hopeful, Harry Needs (19), is awarded with £1,500.

Olympic Hopeful, Harry Needs (19) is the 1st recipient of the Islington Sporting Future £1500.00 sponsorship grant. Harry was sponsored by Mount Anvil Construction for a period of 1 year from July 2011.

The Islington Sporting Future scheme aims to find local sponsors for nationally ranked Islington sports stars. As our talented young people move up the ranks of their sports, the cost of competing, training and equipment starts to escalate. The Islington Sporting Future scheme aims to support our talented young people through this period in their sporting careers. Sport Islington will contribute £500 to a combined sponsorship package of £1500, with the local sponsor contributing £1000. For the £1000 contribution the local sponsor will:

  • Have a sponsorship agreement with the upcoming athlete for a year
  • Have a photo opportunity with the athlete at a training venue or within your office, which may be used for a press release by Islington Council
  • Use the athlete’s name and profile in your promotional material
  • Have an acknowledgement of your support on the websites of Islington Council and Sport Islington
  • Have regular updates from the athlete about their progress.In addition you may receive:
  • An invitation to training and events
  • An acknowledgement in Islington council’s newspaper, Islington Life, which is delivered to 90,000 Islington households
  • An opportunity to have your logo on the athlete’s training kit (at additional cost)

Age: 17

Sport: Fencing Women’s foil

Current ranking or National Competition level: GB under 20 Champion Juniors.

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: 3rd in GB u17 Championships – Cadet. 1st in U20 GB Championships – Junior. Member of GB Cadet Team for European Championships.

Sporting goals for the next 12 months:  To achieve a podium at the UKSG in September and to be a member of the England team for the Junior Commonwealth Games in February 2012. To continue to progress in my first year of Junior fencing and to continue to represent GB in future.

Aasha Kimpton - Sport Islington.Name: Aasha Kimpton

Age: 11

Sport: Gymnastics

Current ranking or National Competition level: Ranked 3rd in England for Espoir level (age 12/13) , member of GB Start Squad for 2011 – 2012

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: British Level 2 2010 bronze medalist, English Espoir Championships 2011 bronze medalist

Sporting goals for the next 12 months: To represent GB at a junior international event, improve national ranking, make selection for GB Potential Squad in 2012

Name: George Durden

Age: 17

Sport: Canoe Slalom

Current ranking or National Competition level: Ranked in top 7 Juniors in GB.

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: At premiership level, GB selection trials (4th & 6th places) and indoor canoe chamion at 500 & 1000m.

Sporting goals for the next 12 months: George is aiming to make the under 23 Great Britian team and go on to represent Great Britain at the under 23 world and european championships.

Name: Camilo Parilli – Ocampo

Age: 21

Sport: Rugby Union

Current ranking or National Competition level: England Students Squad and Leicester Tigers Academy

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: England Students Squad, Loughborough University rugby runners up, Leicester tigers Academy

Sporting goals for the next 12 months: Maintain England Students level, Loughborough students Division 2, Guiness Premiership, England Squad.

Sport: Fencing Mens Sabre

Current ranking or National Competition level: 3rd in Junior GB rankings and 12th in Senior GB rankings

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: Qualified for and competed in Junior World and European Championships. Competed at senior International level tournaments.

Sporting goals for the next 12 months: Maintain: to reach number 1 in Junior GB rankings and top 7 in senior GB rankings.  To reach the Olympic Games in his home town of London.

Age: 17

Sport: Trampolining

Current ranking or National Competition level: National Under 19, FigureB

Sporting Achievements over the last 12 months: RepresentedLondon in the English Trampolining Championships (2010). Came 1stin the British Trampoline Championships U19 Nat C (2010). Retained FIG B status through 2011 whilst undertaking A-levels. Sport Islington ‘Sports Man’ of the year’.

Sporting goals for the next 12 months: Maintain: Qualify for The British Trampoline Championships 2012 and qualify for FigureA mens status.
